HEALTHCARE REFORM HEALTHIER FUTURE FOR MALAYSIA 2022

Health is everyone’s birth right but everyone is also responsible to ensure his own health. Ensuring a healthy population and provision of health care is pari passu the overarching responsi-bility of every government.
This publication is to re-affirm the above truism, as it has in previous records of the Malaysian Medical Association, from the time of the first edition in 1980, and the second in 1999, guided by the principles of Universal Health Coverage.
This book, while looking critically at the historical development and recognising the remarkable progress of healthcare in Malaysia, since Independence in 1957, is nevertheless an attempt to outline the challenges confronting the future generations of our country and to identify areas in which further significant improvements are possible.
Towards this objective, this book addresses healthcare in its broad spectrum, and besides the national adjustments engendered by the COVID-19 pandemic and preparations for future such calamities, includes articles on leadership and governance, medical education and the medical council, the role of digital health and Big Data and the long-awaited national health insurance.
This book has been diligently and thoughtfully constructed and its wide scope is designed to appeal to everyone.
