These Multiple Choice Questions, all of SBA (Single Best Answer) format, are based on a collection of self-written in-house questions we developed to assess our Family Medicine students during the COVID19 pandemic. Our online teaching and assessment utilised these SBAs, supplemented by Kahoot quizzes, Slido polls and other assessments during Malaysia’s MCO (Movement Control Order) when teaching was wholly online. A variety of tools were used for homework assignments including Google Classroom, Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet. These SBAs are in 20 collections, each with 5 questions. At the end of each collection there are explanatory answers with references for further reading.
At RCSI Perdana, Family Medicine is taught both in Years 1 and 4. It begins within weeks of entering medical school with the Early Patient Contact Programme and Healthcare Symposia under the supervision of Dr. Rafae. These modules are delivered along with our related campus-based Clinical Skills Teaching with SPs (Simulated Patients). In addition we uniquely offer a Medical Humanities course (delivered by Prof. Cummins) providing students with a wider understanding of health topics through the medium of fiction, poetry, film and creative writing.
As part of the Early Patient Contact Programme students begin meeting patients at GP clinics within the first few months enrolling at RCSI Perdana. In Year 4, students are attached for a 6-week posting to both GP Clinics and KKs (Klinik Kesihatan) plus campus-based, now online, small-group topic teaching. Clinical attachments and class-based teaching are underpinned by a Moodle-platform VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) plus core textbooks e.g. Oxford Handbook of General Practice (OHGP), Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties (OHCS) and Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (OHCM). The SBAs contained in this book are based on these core sources and on self-written examples within the department.
We are very grateful to Miss Chulochana A/P Sivanantham, a Year 4 student, for permission to use her artwork.
